In the category of "You don't see that every day" is where we put our hauling today of Route 66, a custom designed, Eric Goetz built 68-foot sailboat. From its carbon fiber construction to its external, hydraulically operated centerboard with integral steering fin, to its canted rudder, to it top speed of 33 knots under sail, this boat is extreme in every sense of the word.
"Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this past week brought unexpected work to Custom Yacht Service courtesy of a deep low pressure weather system in the Southeast along with the forecasted approach of Hurricane Joaquin. Although Joaquin's track eventually shifted to the east, sparing the Chesapeake from additional damage, high winds forced water up the Bay and into low lying areas including our boatyard.
With the hauling and blocking of 24 boats during those three days, we begin this week by putting most of them back overboard. We take this opportunity to thank all of our customers, old and new alike for helping us make the storm haul-out and launching routines go as smoothly as possible. " "The third snowfall of the season came to Carters Creek today, which happened to coincide with the four-year anniversary of our purchase of Custom Yacht Service from Lester and Alisa Potter. For those of you who don’t frequent Virginia this time of year, the Winter of 2015 will be remembered for snow and bitterly cold temperatures. For those who don’t frequent Irvington during the season, the Winter of 2015 will also be remembered for the stillness and absolute beauty that falls upon a frozen Carters Creek but once every few years. To all, the staff of Custom Yacht Service wishes you an enjoyable 2015 boating season (the beginning of which must be only weeks away). "
